I was the victim of gross medical negligence in an ER room at a community hospital. I don't know if my history of Dep and BP hypomania (if at all) had anything to do with it, but my verbal outrage over an issue was more than matched by an RN. Then the cover up began.
If a lawyer later this week doesn't think the case is worth enough $$, I have several ideas.
One would be to flood the hospital with letters of outrage, and we wouldn't even have to play a "psych" card. If each of you could get several people to write the hospital, it would make quite a statement. Then I could let the media know about the letters, only I want to remain anonymous. They couldn't say a word without violating my HIPPA rights.
The worst thing that they did was to fail to tell me that my initial BP was 171/95, and then they never took it again!! or if they did, they failed to record it or say anything about it to me -- and I'm on Parnate!! (although I don't believe I consumed anything that would trigger a hypertensive event, and I'm not aware that they gave me anything).
Anyone like the idea? My only other idea, other than going to the media (but I don't like the attention), is to get a retired Dr. with little to lose, march into the hospital and demand some compensatory $$ for intentional emotional distress. Let them report us for blackmail. They wouldn't dare with my record.
What do you think? If I disappear for awhile, I'll get back to check your thoughts. I really want to know what you think. Thanks!

I would say to you as an Ex RN retired that also was an expert witness in malpractice cases that unless irreparable damage was done. That a good lawyer will not take the case. Is it possible that the staff didn't want to scare you with your BP? From what I have read spontaneous hypertensive crises can happen. Just happen. That is all I know. Did you receive injuries that now have debilitated you in some way? A Letter by you to the administration if you feel you were mistreated would result in an investagation of said staff involved. Wouldn't give money to you. But discipline of staff. Phillipa

Phillipa is right, you will never get a lawyer for your case. The media will not be interested. The best thing you can do is to write to the ombudsman of the hospital. You might get an apology, and you might not. But it is still good to write to him/her.
This is the end of the thread.
