it is interesting to consider accommodation expenses.
i mean...
imagine you got offered university places at a bunch of different universities...
but then you had to fund accommodation.
in chapel hill... or in NYC...
so Auckland is most expensive for accommodation (our big city) with probably Wellington next behind (the cool capital) and with Dunedin notoriously cheap (but of course the elite residential halls priced comparably to Auckland).
So it turns out that Waikato and Massey told their studnets 'go home'. So they don't charge their students, since their students (in the cheaper regions, admittedly) were told to go home.
But the students in Auckland were given a choice:
You can stay in your accommodation. You will have to stay in your room (with no bathroom - that's shared maybe 16 rooms to a floor. with no food storage space... but we might post a food parcel outside your room 3x a day as your meal plan... and you have no balcony... and maybe 1 washer and dryer per 50 people...) or... you can violate the conditions of your contract. So we want you to pay x amount... Or you are in violation of your contract in which case you owe us x amount...
Because they are nasty nasty f*ck*ng nasty people to do business with.
That's why.

Oh, and because we are having students returning from China who will be undergoing the quarantine period in the room next to you.
Or you pay us to violate your contract.

So we are clear:
Studnets from Hubai (spelling sorry) who are coming to NZ to take up their full fee paying (and bribed place in medical school) who will be sharing a bathroom with you and laundry with you but it's okay you can open your window right next to them...
Maybe... Or maybe not...
Or you pay us to violate your contract.
M'kay.

Dan John.
He was right when he was a discus thrower in Utah.
And he's still right when he's being commercialised in California.
Get back up. That's right.
And bear walks. Yes sir.

we did some of that in biological anthropology, too.
people in chile who had interesting burial rites. mummifying children. many of their children would die. 'naturally occurring' very very high levels of arsenic in the soil.
and radioactive substances accumulating in bones and teeth.
to help identify where parts of people were from. you know, in case of natural disaster.
