I, too, am taking Ritalin as an augmentation med, with effexor and thyroid 3 and 4. I also had difficulty with the insurance company. It is a pain in the neck. The problem is that the insurance companies say the published studies don't support using Ritalin for this use. BUt the reason there are none and never will be any published studies is that Ritalin is already on the market, is relatively safe, and works. So there is no incentive for anyone to fund a study. Talk to your doctor about advocating for you. Eventually my insurance approved it. I kept insisting and talking to supservising pharmacists at the approval office, and had my doctor send them written documentation of the need. What is bad for you is that suddenly stopping ritalin can cause rebound depression. You certainly don't need that. Sudden starting and stopping and starting stimulants was found to cause changes in the brains of animals that made them more sensitive to the effects of the stimulants, according to a presenter at last year's NIH consensus conference on ADHD. Good luck.
