Yes, cytomel or other thyroid (like synthroid) is often used to augment an antidepressant. I take it, but before my doctore had me try it, he had me get some blood tests to check out my thyroid levels. He told me that because my TSH was high, on the borderline between normal and not, it was an indication of slight hypothyroid, or sublinical hypothyroid, meaning I don't have any of the main symptoms, except depression and lethargy. It has helped me a lot. I noticed a difference within a week.

I also take ritalin as another augmenter (I don't tolerate high doses of antidepressants)and the insurance company made a stink. I wrote a longwinded post earlier about the politics of covering ritalin. If need be, your doctor can make a stink right back.

The only thing you have to watch out for, is being on thyroid hormone can increase risk of osteoporosis, although I am told that the dose used as an AD augmenter is so low that it is unlikely.
