There was once a time that I didn't need drugs to function fairly well. But as I aged I got worse. There have been times that I have stopped taking medications. I can sometimes do OK until a precipitating event triggers a depressive episode. In general, when I stop meds I get worse. And with one medication, I've never felt better. The sad truth for me is I'm probably dependant on them now, and probably will be for the rest of my life. If they work for you, it's probably not a good idea to stop. The key is finding one that is effective and only gives you the side effects you can deal with. This can be quite a challenge, but the alternatives are worse, IMO.
