In reply to Re: AD insomnia:Remeron-7.5mg. more sedating than 15?, posted by JohnL on March 16, 2001, at 5:07:26
Well, my docs are not yet convinced that the Remeron has pooped out for sleep, so they want me to stay on it at least until my next appointment Thursday. Until then, they want me to keep trying with Remeron, and if that doesn't work to supplement temporarily with Ambien or Klonopin. I thought the idea was to keep me off that stuff! Docs are afraid of side effects with other options (zyprexa weight gain; vistaril lethargy; tricyclic heart problems...) Oh well, guess I can survive until Thursday, maybe try some OTC stuff (unisom) or herb stuff (valerian, kava, etc). Hasn't worked before, but......
Anybody else got any ideas?

I ask because I've been taking Remeron 15 mg. for about a month for sleep, and I seem to be developing some tolerance to its sedative effects (still helps some but not nearly as much as I'd like; of late I've begun sleeping in two-hour bursts and never very deeply). The thought occurs to me because of Remeron's "paradoxic" effect of being less sedating at higher doses (and yes I know that's not true for everyone:))

Also bought Dramamine, Unisom, Valerian and chamomile tea to try; anything to avoid going back to the benzos (sigh).
