Could my medicine be causing this?

Posted by ItsJustMe on March 20, 2001, at 0:26:43

3 weeks ago, I was taking 450 mg of Effexor XR each day and walking about a mile and a half each night. I weigh 360 pounds, so this exercise is very important to me. I wanted off Effexor XR because it didn't seem to be working. My psychiatrist started me on Amitriptyline. I was to gradually work up to 150 mg/day of Amitriptyline, as I weaned off of Effexor. I am now up to 150 mg/day of Amitriptyline and down to only 75 mg/day of Effexor XR.

Here is the problem: I couldn't exercise too much while I was starting my Amitriptyline, because it made me sooooooooooo tired. Now, it doesn't make me feel so out of it. I tried walking tonight and could barely make it around the block before my legs (mostly around my calf muscles and shins) starting hurting really bad. Like extreme muscle fatigue. Ever since I started the Amitriptyline, my legs have felt kind of rubbery, but tonight was the first time I tried exercising. I know the fatigue isn't just because I hadn't exercised in a a couple of weeks. Could this be a bad side-effect of the Amitriptyline? I would really appreciate a response from anyone "in the know" about these kinds of things. I really need to exercise.

Thanks!
