Hi Diane,i've been on paxil....-Effexor-... paxil with some other SSRI's in between, and both paxil and effexor had major bad effects on me (all of those that you mention plus some more). But now i am back on Paxil and have virtually, well, not virtually, but none of the side effects i experienced for the first time. I mean when I took it for the first time it really made me a zomby. I think I achieved the record high (or low)as far as flatness of emotional affect and apathy concerned. In the beginning of the treatment I had been suffering both from bad anxiety and depression. Since I had been on SSRI's non-stop for several months, bad side effects notwithstanding they were all giving my poor starving brain a break.
so, from my experience, I would recommend paxil. It is good for anxiety, if it is your primary complaint. It also allowed me to go through previously impossible situations in life without feeling a pinch of fear or worry, and eventually I built up enough memories that allow me not to worry as much anymore. i know that things can turn out rather badly sometimes, but I have learned now, that they rarely do, and learned to shift my attention somewhere else. This learning to shift attention doesn't happen on its own, unfortunately. I had to learn it from cognitive-behavioral therapy.
all the best,
mila
