In fact its not even close, not even in the same league. Sudafed is pseudoephedrine which has little if any energy inducing effects.
If you want an over the counter medication that will give you an energy boost then buy Bronkaid asthma tablets (which have 25 mg of ephedrine sulfate, which is much stronger than psuedoephedrine & is better than caffeine for waking you up.) You can also go to a ghetto convienence store & buy mini thins 'two way action' tablets which have 12.5 mg ephedrine hcl, which is a bit stronger than ephedrine sulfate. Both of these medications have an add'l ingredient called guaifensin which is an expectorant- but don't worry, it doesn't seem to do much of anything & the FDA said guaifenesin is safe but a basically worthless medication. The real reason the guaifenesin is put in there is because adding that makes it impossible to manufacture methamphetamine from the ephedrine in bronkaid or Mini-thins. The herb ephedra is weaker & more expensive than real ephedrine. If I were you I would take 50 mg of ephedrine about an hour before you are supposed to wake up for work. For a greater (synergistic) effect, also take a 200 mg vivarin.
All in all, Wellbutrin acts on Dopamine & Norepinephrine, while Ephedrine just acts on the adrenaline glands & norepinephrine. In other words Wellbutrin is a stronger & more effective drug.
> If WB is given to counteract side effects of Celexa such as lack of energy and over the counter Sudafed is effective as an energy booster why shouldn't I take Sudafed instead of WB? Wouldn't Sudafed be as safe long term? It is so much cheaper. Am I missing something? Thanks. JaneB
