> thanks! It has been my experience that when it comes to the effectiveness for treating social phobia Klonopin would be the winner. Klonopin is very potent and I dont think would have to be rased to very high levels for a maintenance dosage. The different mechanisms of action by which Neurontin and Klonopin exerts an anti-anxiety effect would indicate that Klonopin would be the more effective anxiolytic. Thats not to say Neurontin isnt effective and is advantageous in that it does not have much if any withdrawal problems from what I have read about it and a trial I had. With a trial of Neurontin for social anxiety playing around with the dose may be necessary. I think too high a dose could be ineffective as could too low a dose bearing in mind the short half-life of Neurontin and that when used for epilepsy the GABAergic effects wear off after a few days. Lowering the dose could therefore have a more positive effect than increasing the dose.
Good luck
