Re: effexor - weight loss or gain?

For the first few months on Effexor I had a relatively good AD response and no weight gain. Then the drug turned on me in a big way. I began gaining weight and experiencing mixed states. My psych doc told me that Effexor didn't cause weight gain (therefore, it was my own irresponsible, self-indulgent eating behaviors) and recommended increasing the dose. In his defense, I did not recognize that I was in mixed states -- isn't it odd that some of us, regardless of how knowledgable we are about these illnesses still don't recognize states when we're in them? And, he was working on the assumption that the clinical trials on Effexor, which showed more weight loss than gain, would be indicative of long-term effects. People respond differently, of course, but that was my experience.
