Yes, don't be so quick to think that your brain may be permanently damaged. I went through a terrible period after quitting Depakote, severe
memory loss...I couldn't remember what I had for breakfast, I couldn't recall familiar words, sometimes whole days were wiped out of my memory.
It was sad and frightening, but I did get better veerrrry slowly, over a number of months.
Since I have just gotten out of the hospital myself, I can empathize with your lonliness and boredom. It's kind of silly to say, "Keep busy" because there are such a limited number of things to do, but take advantage of any counseling, classes, or programs available. Write letters and talk to other patients. Do puzzles or play cards or whatever games they have available. Read books,
make phone calls, plan for the future, and be determined that you WILL get better.
