This spinal stimulation depression protocol can be done at home, using a tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) device. These can be purchased online.

In the University of Cincinnati study, depression test subjects received three 20-minute sessions per week for eight weeks. The anode electrode was placed over the spine in the middle back, and the cathode electrode was placed on the right shoulder. This article has illustrations that show the placement of the electrodes:

The strength of the stimulation was 2.5 milliamps. If it was irritating, it could be lowered to 2.0 mA. If it was still irritating, it could be lowered to 1.5 mA. Most tDCS devices only go up to 2.0 mA, though some go up to 2.5 or 3.0. The Foc.us V3 device goes up to 4.0 mA.

This site rates tDCS devices:

Most tDCS devices use sponge electrodes that are soaked in saline solution. This video shows how to make saline solution.

Some tDCS devices use self-adhering electrodes like these. They can be reused repeatedly.
