Taurine is a neurotransmitter and also participates as a neurotransmitter modulator (meaning it calms any neurotransmitters that might be over firing, at least that is how I understand it). It is often very low in bipolars, and can help with glucose uptake relating to bipolar disorder. It definitely has a calming effect to it. I guess it participates in a variety of other metabolic processes as well
