Bilateral stimulation

Posted by Hugh on April 7, 2020, at 13:22:37

I've been using bilateral auditory stimulation the last few months. It was inspired by EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Instead of using eye movements, bilateral stimulation (BLS) uses auditory tones, listened to with headphones. You can listen to it here:

I like ProSWEEP a lot better than this YouTube version.

ProSWEEP was developed by Paul Swingle, Ph.D., a neurofeedback clinician in Vancouver. For information on how ProSWEEP affects the EEG, google "the sweep aspect of the harmonic"

ProSWEEP is sold by

https://www.soundhealthproducts.com/products/prosweep-bilateral-auditory-stimulator.

The CD costs 22 Canadian dollars ($16.60 USD). A digital download of ProSWEEP is 16 Canadian dollars ($12.50 USD). ProSWEEP has three tracks -- slow, medium, and fast. Track 3 (fast) is the most intense. (SWEEP, another Soundhealth product, contains just one track -- medium.)

ProSWEEP should be listened to with headphones, at low volume, with eyes closed. Swingle has his patients listen to bilateral stimulation for 15 minutes, though this might be too much for some people, at least in the beginning.

ProSWEEP sweeps sound between each ear. The sound that is the stimulus is a multiple density harmonic that has an arousing effect on the frontal regions of the brain, balancing brain wave amplitudes between the two frontal lobes. This blended harmonic also increases occipital slow frequency amplitude, resulting in a simultaneous quieting during ProSWEEP treatments.
