Sorry, I just came upon the parents page--As with you, I struggle with some of my own issues (anx/dep/ocd)but i also have a 29 year old daughter with a moderate eating disorder and alcoholism--after years in Al Anon I have never managed "loving detachment" but I know in my heart and mind that is what must be done. It is always that balance of love, support and recognizing the limitations of what I can and can not do. I just asked myself--what could she do to "cure my anxiety", probably nothing and that is what I can do to cure her alcoholism. She is wonderful, hard working and sweet as the morning--but has her own torments as I am sure your son does. I can help her find the best treatment but I can not make her benefit from it. You have my best wishes and support--I don't think it ever stops hurting completely--you just get better at managing it
