You're absolutely right.
I go to an eating disorders support group, and we had a young man in the group for a while -- 16 or 17, I think -- and it was striking how much of his experience mirrored the womens. I think everyone was surprised by this, because there's just a kind of mindset that it's got to be different for men than women, you know? And with all the research I've done about EDs over the years, there's dang little about the ways in which men's experience with them differs from women's.
Then again, there's also not much about eating disorders in adult women, either. The stereotype of EDs only happening to teenage girls is pretty strong, and it seems that's true for the researchers as well.
For what it's worth, I'd be glad to read and offer support or information if you care to write about what's going on for you here.
