I wish I could do something to make you feel better. You sound so sad. I just want to encourage you by telling you that people DO get better. I was anorexic for 13 years and it took a good 4-5 years of counseling and a few inpatient treatment programs before I began to get better. I honestly don't know what it was that made me change. I guess I had just finally reached the point where it was easier to change than to stay the same. I think I visualized what a normal life might look like, and I tried to do everything I could to head that direction, even when it didn't feel good. If you want to get better, you will definitely have to get out of your comfort zone, and know that it is okay. No matter what happens you have to make a decision to keep heading in the direction of the normal life you have visualized.
Funny...I was studying to be a psychiatrist too. Got my BS, worked for a few years and lost my interest in pysch althogther. I think I was mostly into it because I wanted to figure out myself, which never worked.
So, Tigereyes, don't lose hope! There is a chance you can get better! I guarantee beyond a shadow of a doubt that a much better life awaits you. When you said that the periods of your life when you weight was normal were a worse hell that being anorexic, I believe you. It was hardest for me too when I first gained weight. But it's that initial "hell" you have to get over before things like your metabolism, weight, emotions, etc. begin to balance out. It takes time, but give time time! Don't give up! Let me know how things are going. I wish you the best of luck.
