In reply to anyone found good med for ED?, posted by meAgain on March 28, 2007, at 1:34:41
What sort of ED do you have? That's the first question. If you're bulimic, there are a few meds which have shown some promise.
If you're anorexic, there are no meds that are directly helpful. There are, however, meds which can be helpful for some of the symptoms that usually go along with AN, like the obsessive/compulsive issues, and the depression. Unfortunately, a lot of antidepressants aren't very helpful with anorexics, because the starvation interferes with their effects.
For bulimia, Topamax is often helpful for reducing the urge to binge, which helps reduce purging. Sometimes SSRIs can help, by reducing anxiety and depression.
I guess what I'd ask is what sort of ED do you have, and what sorts of symptoms are bothering you most? Some symptoms -- most, really -- will have to be addressed in therapy, but sometimes meds can be a great adjunct to talk therapy. Which is most likely to help, though, really does depend on some details.
Hope that helps, and that you'll post again with more info, so you can get more advice.
Good luck.
