My doctor had considered ablation as a possible treatment for my perimenopause symptoms. The ablation causes bleeding to cease (sometimes only temporarily), but does not affect hormone production, from what I understand. Since my particular problem has been severe hot flashes, the ablation would not have been appropriate.
In other words, the ovaries still produce their hormones (and eggs), it's just that there is no longer a uterine lining to shed every cycle.
