You sound like an ideal candidate for Wellbutrin. Remeron and Serzone are also good antidepressants that are not SSRIs. The main problem with Remeron is the sedation that results from its antihistamine actions, but this is less of a problem at higher doses (30-45 mg), and it can be mitigated somewhat by taking it at night.

As someone else mentioned, Pristiq/Effexor may be candidates, although they are very similar to an SSRI in their effects.

You could also try something like nortriptyline, which has more of an effect on norepinephrine than it does serotonin, but it has more side effects than SSRIs.

You should also not automatically eliminate all SSRIs. Paxil is known for having a lot of side effects, so you shouldn't rule them out based on your experiences with Paxil. Lexapro is considered to be the SSRI with the least side effects. Celexa and Zoloft are also good choices.

If I were you, I would start with Wellbutrin.
