I started on tianeptine (generic Stablon) 5 weeks ago and had remarkable results. I have historically had bad side effects with SSRIs and when I read about Stablon I thought it might be worth trying.
I am wondering...If a drug that enhances uptake of serotonin relieves symptoms of anxiety, could that indicate that an excess of free serotonin in plasma actually causes anxiety?
It hasn't helped with the unbelievable fatigue and only minimally with depression, but I do feel the depression is a little bit improved. I think that getting the horrible physical symptoms ( throat tightness, abdominal cramping, knot in stomach, diarrhea, wheezing and coughing) under control has relieved my depression somewhat.
When these problems resolved (some of which I never thought due to anxiety), I started searching for answers. Seems serotonin is also responsible for asthma symptoms and peristalsis in the intestine. So having these problems resolve with the Tianeptine suggests to me that I had a problem with excess serotonin production and the med helped resolve that via increased uptake.
The tianeptine has a short half-life, and when I forget to take my dose every 4-5 hours I have a return of symptoms and I wake up with them also after not having the med for over 12 hours.
Can anyone offer insight about free serotinin and anxiety? I'm not finding anything and even if I found some abstract I doubt I would understand most of it.
