There are many people here who have gone through the withdrawal process from medications. You might find some responses if you post your message on the Withdrawal board - cut and paste the message content.

I can appreciate your apprehension!! - I have recently tapered off of Xanax and Ambien and stopped Neurontin suddenly after a bad 2 week trial. In my situation I'd say that increased anxiety is due more from fear of possible relapse rather than certainty of it because of stopping the medications.
