To newcomers to Babble.

Posted by Dinah on January 12, 2008, at 11:01:56

Welcome!!!

Babble is a welcoming community, but this particular board doesn't get a lot of traffic. If you don't get an answer, I assure you it isn't because we aren't happy to have you here.

I'm going to suggest that Dr. Bob provide a list of the boards at the top of this page, along with their purpose, but in the meantime, here's a brief overview of some of the most active boards on Babble and their purpose.

If you're looking for information on conventional medications and biological treatments, you probably are looking for Psychobabble Medication board.

But if your question is related to withdrawing from prescribed medication, including if, when and how to withdraw as well as possible consequences of withdrawal, there's a separate board for that at

There is also a board that focuses on issues related to the abuse or potential abuse of legal or illegal substances now or in the past. Please remember that while it's fine to discuss the use of illegal substances, this site should not be used to exchange information on illegal ways of obtaining substances. Also, please don't ask for substances directly from or offer them directly to others. This board is located at:

If you're looking for complimentary or alternative treatments, which, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, are "medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine", there is a board specifically for that.

Therapy and psychological treatments, icnluding but not limited to discussions of different theoretical orientations and techniques, the therapy process, transference and countertransference, how to find a therapist, etc. is at Psychobabble Psychology at

There are also several smaller boards, and I'm sure posters there would like to issue an invitation to join them, although some don't get much traffic and any lack of response is related to that, not to lack of desire to answer. There is currently discussion at the Administration Board about closing some of the smaller boards. If you'd like to weigh in on that, or on your reception here as newcomers, that board is located at

The rules governing the site are summarized in the FAQ.

If you have any questions, or want to familiarize yourself with the rules, that is a good place to start. Questions can also be asked on Administration.

You are very welcome to Babble.

Dinah
