I'm sorry you're feeling so bad right now. It could be that you're experiencing the dreaded and dreadful "SSRI Poop Out" on Paxil -- after a while, a lot of people find their SSRI has stopped working for them. No one really knows why, but there's a lot of speculation out there -- often delivered in rather absolute and definitive terms. The bottom line on it, though, is that no one really knows why it happens. The good news is that, very often, for many people, one of the other SSRIs will work as well, and switching can bring you back to remission. It's worth discussing with your doctor.

As for your professor, you don't say what major you're talking about, but that's a terrible thing to say! So, uh, which is better? Hiding the fact that you're struggling, or recognizing it and addressing it? Hm... I can't think of a single discipline in which the first is preferable. And EVERYONE has some area of his or her life in which some sort of counseling would be beneficial -- it might be called coaching, or counseling, or therapy, but think about it: life coach, time management coach, clutter consultant, career counselor, academic advisor, football coach, psychotherapist, etc. There's something out there that would be helpful for anyone, if they choose to explore it.

Nadezda is absolutely correct -- this is a great place for support and there are a lot of great people here. (I'm biased -- I happen to think that Nadezda is one of the best, and one of the most generous.) I hope you find the support and information you need, and I hope it's helpful for you.

Best luck, and do explore the other boards.

Also, if you go to the registration area, you can activate BabbleMail, which would allow others to contact you privately, without disclosing any identifying information. You may not wish to do so, and that's fine, I just want you to be aware of the feature and how it works. BabbleMail uses whichever email address you've used to register, and what comes into your inbox is from dr-bob.com, saying "Babblemail from" whoever. Your email address is never disclosed to the sender, nor to the recipient. (I just want you to know that there's full privacy -- only Dr Bob himself has access to any identifying information about you. Even the deputies here won't have that access.)

Best luck to you, and my warmest welcome.
