In my state we have a parity law, so "biological" mental illness like Depression and Schizophrenia are covered under the same rules as the usual medical illnesses. Unfortunately, that law doesn't apply to companies who are self-insured (the benefits come out of the company's coffers instead of a 3rd party's coffers). Of course, the two companies I've worked for were both self-insured.
I think this is really important legislation.
