DBT is dialectical behavior therapy and I have tried it. I'm no way an expert on it, but in my humble opinion it involves thinking of alternatives to your behaviors instead of just acting. Transference is when you have behaviors and ways of feeling from your past, (concrete events that have happened to you to shape you) that you bring with you into the present. For example, if you had a significant other who constantly berated you and you're in therapy, you feel especially vulnerable to criticism. You might feel constantly berated by your therapist, even though they are not doing this. Ways of "seeing" transference is by paying attention to recurrent themes, problems, and feelings in therapy - or with anyone for that matter. Don't know if this muddled it for you, but I hope it helps.
