The effects of one year of therapy

Posted by Miss Honeychurch on July 1, 2004, at 15:06:04

Today was my one year anniversary of being in therapy. I am feeling very proud of myself today so I wanted to share this with all of you.

One year ago I walked into Bean's office the most miserable I had ever been in my life. My marriage was on the brink of divorce, I had lost 40 pounds in 2 months, I was twitching all over, I was stuttering. I had even lost my ability to smell. But most of all, I hated myself with the heat of a thousand suns. I couldn't concentrate, ignored my family and friends, and had no self-respect.

One year later: I can smell again!!!! My marriage is stronger than it ever has been, I haven't had a hypochondriacal episode in 12 months, and best of all, I am learning to love myself and have respect for myself.

Just in case anyone is interested, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Depression. I have accomplished these strides through the eclectic approach to psychology which Bean incorporates as well as his strong emphasis on CBT.

And you babblers have been a source of inspiration to me. I cannot thank you enough for all the support you have given me this past year. I can only hope I gave a fraction of it in return.

Love to all in Babbleland,
Miss Honeychurch
