I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so sore. I also barricade myself behind the computer, book, newspaper or under a blanket, and know how awful it feels.

My metaphor for myself is the maggot - pale, soft, unprotected, feeding on rotten things. I don't think a snail sounds quite so bad - I know you are turning in on yourself at the moment, but it could turn the other way and shoot and sparkle outwards.
