Ever wish there was an animal present in your T's office? I know I find it easier to talk and connect with people when I can cuddle something...
My therapy didn't really have room for such a notion, but had I been in therapy with someone more humanistic and less psychodynamic, I might have verbalized my weird longing. From what I've read, a lot of people's therapists here take a more humanistic approach. It's interesting to me.
I read after the 9/11 attacks that volunteers would bring their dogs to the site of the twin tower wreckage and that many of the rescue workers found it therapeutic.
I would have loved to hold my cat during sessions...he's very cuddly and due to some accident when he was little, has only one eye. He's so trusting though, and doesn't fear people even though he had such a bad experience. Wish I was more like that.
