Hi all,
Just wanted to share some recent test results of mine as well as share a pretty emotional therapy session from yesterday.
I started psychotherapy two years ago - was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Upon my second or third visit, I took the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) which measured my levels of depression, anxiety, etc. Two years ago, I had clinical levels of depression as well as anxiety. My anger measurement was off the chart. My T confessed yesterday he thought I could very well have been headed for an eating disorder, alcoholism, drug abuse. Luckily, I managed to avoid all that.
I took the test again two weeks ago and got my results yesterday - absolutely staggering. I am now in the "normal" zones for all measurable things. I no longer have an anxiety or depressive disorder.
This was the first time I have ever cried in therapy, I mean I really cried. I cried for the hurt person I was 2 years ago, I cried for at last seeing results on paper of how far I had come and how my hard work had paid off. I cried because for the first time in a long time, I feel mentally free.
So I guess I just want to say that it CAN be done. It is possible to live a happy life. That psychotherapy works if you are dedicated to getting better. I was lucky to find a therapist well suited to my needs (on my third try).
So if anyone feels like giving up, like there is no hope of ever gettting better, there is hope, honestly. Don't give up on yourself.
