At the risk of being incomprehensible...
I think there are 'functional roles' that we need in our life. Basically... Roles... People who are there for us in different respects. The particular individual who fills the role is dispensible so long as the role is filled.
So if someone goes it isn't SO VERY bad if there is someone else to fill their role.
But if there isn't anyone else things are so very much harder.
