Whether this combination would work or not, is not the real issue. Your friend has a plan to give up his life and when people have ways and plans to take their own life, it is very urgent that they get treatment immediately. It is showing that he is in real pain that he is saying, don't tell anyone. BUT it is the part of him that wants to stay alive that is telling you about it.

Offer to work with him to find appropriate help, but don't try and go this alone. Call your local mental health crisis line or a line such as 1-800-suicide (if you are in the US) for advice. Your friend also may not have the energy or motivation to help himself. The crisis or mental health centre can help direct you how to best assist him..
