Music can influence mood like nothing else, I believe. There is this experiment that I used to do when I talked about music and labor (I taught childbirth classes). I'd have the partners rub the mom's back and I'd play different types of music. Then they would talk about which piece of music she thought he liked and which one he hated. Almost always the moms would get it right, they could tell through the touch the emotions that were being channeled.
I use music too. My youngest self likes Peter, Paul and Mary. I love Carol King's version of "All that's left is loving you forever." Most evenings we have the TV off and the Dehlila (sp?) show on the radio. She plays sappy love songs but it is familiar and soothing somehow.
...And I took an art therapy class three years ago and had a ball with it. It is so weird to see this posted tonight. I as going through my journal and found a conversation that I'd saved about some of the scribble art we'd done. The class taught me I'm way better with words than pictures.
