It was actually very brave to talk about the subject of termination - both for you and your therapist. Clients often freak out (I'm one of them) when this comes up. But it is the responsible thing to do - to not promise a client that you will be there forever and to have some understanding about what your termination process looks like. Most therapists have some idea about how they go about things and they also expect the client to initiate it when they feel ready. Knowing you have the control should help you some.

I know it feels scary to come face-to-face with the reality of there being an end to therapy. But perhaps you could try and see how honest your therapist was and use that to shore-up your trust. She wouldn't tell you it was up to you and on your timeline if it wasn't, it doesn't sound like.

I don't know how the conversation went, but I think you should go back and try not to end it now because you foresee an end in the future. As scary as it is, you have to trust the relationship to guide you in knowing when you are ready.

Good luck!
