It's a completely different experience. Therapy at once a week for me was just recounting what happened that week and getting reacquainted. Therapy at twice a week has such continuity that I can sometimes pick up as if I hadn't left.
I think once a week therapy would be immensely frustrating to me now. As it is when my therapist goes out of town for even one of the two sessions.
