Coming back to the Board after 6 years or so

Posted by allisonfly on May 27, 2010, at 20:39:40

Hi! I used to post on the psychology board of psychobabble all the time many years ago. I started to read some of your posts and I just wanted to introduce myself. You seem like a great group and I can identify with a lot of the issues here.

So, I have 10+ years in therapy with the same therapist, and I am completely 100% attached to her. At times it is really frustrating for me, at other times, I am more accepting of our relationship--that it has boundaries and has to be the way it is. Lately, I have been going thru a really difficult time (I have bipolar disorder) and I am in a partial hospitalization program right now. What is interesting to me is that I have a male therapist (an intern) who helped me with some suicidal thoughts today and suddenly now I am feeling all connected to him. Not like I am with my primary therapist, but still. It's amazing to me how it is such an ingrained pattern with me to fall for my therapist. Anyone else feel this way--that it is a pattern you keep repeating thru your life?

Well, I hope to post here more often and get to know you better!
Thanks--
Allison
