Kid_A,

Hi. I posted it under Songs for Depression and headed it 7 Sins To Wallow In, referring to the artists I customarily turn to when I need emotional validation.

I'll tell you straight out kid, I have been known to use aesthetics as a weapon. Known for walking into parties, removing an album from the turntable and throwing it across the room.
Got away with these antics due to a public image in rock-n-roll criticism, which earned me a place in the community as an arbiter of taste.

That was 12 years ago, and I'm not so intolerant these days, but the one thing I can get Rush Limbaughlike irrational about is rock-n-roll. It's embarrassing, I'd almost feel more secure confessing a 9 hour eating binge than how pigheaded and unforgiving I've been about people's records collections, all the misunderstandings, broken friendships, pedantic lecturing, street brawls, and, natch, the absolutely ludicrous outfits I have worn to represent my loyalties.

Having said all that, I am now totally out of touch w/ what the young people are listening to. Once it stopped being my job to audition new music for 6 hours straight whether I felt like it or not I threw in the towel, not having the time or $ to keep up. It's a chore.
And I'm ignorant. Heard Radiohead for the 1st time 3 months ago. Now I have one of their CDs, so I guess I'm educable, I just tend to stick w/ the sure bets, for instance, as I write this I'm playing the 43rd release by Mr. Dylan, Love and Theft, money well spent.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to trading opinions, if you're "OK" with opinions.
