Did you guys ever notice how we Students are "Studs"?
I like the studs board :)
back to the topic. here are some of my cognitive biases that cause me to waste time and accumlate anxiety about my projects.
1. I will have more time in the future (bullcrap! I will have as much time in the future as I have now, which is NOT MUCH!)
2. I work better under pressure (bullcrap! I work better when my mind and body are relaxed, not when they're cramped. Last minute work is rushed and sloppy.)
3. This project won't take that long (bullcrap! I only know how long it's gonna take when it's all over!)
4. I can't start working until everything is set up just right. (bullcrap! I don't need the perfect iTunes playlist to enter data. I don't need to make a new pot of tea to open a Word document. I don't need to have my desk perfectly clear before I can write that outline.
5. I can only get good work done if I have a block of at least 4 uninterrupted hours. (bullcrap! I tell myself that when I get home, there will be fewer distractions and I can get more work done, but when I get home in the evening, I just want to chill out. I tell myself that I can devote Saturday and Sunday to homework, but I also want to be able to do all my housework chores, and hang out with friends AND sleep late. It never happens!)
6. I will only take a short break (bullcrap! If I see 10 emails about psycho-babble posts, I should know by now that checking them all, and responding to a few threads will take at least a half-hour, and that I will likely get distracted and start reading other threads, or want to start one too. If I wander down to my friend's office for a chat, I should know that is a half hour diversion, because we'll probably end up walking to get coffee and stuff too.)
hope you have a happy busy nerdy day :)
