> My mother has said that she would quit, but it seems as if when she receives the phone call that she changes personalities. It's her addiction that fuels my fire for my addiction! DAMNMIT! I can't stop it. It is so powerful! I want to be original like I use to be. I told her tonight that my conclusion is that we have to separate. I need to move away to somewhere else. That is my conclusion. SUGGESTIONS PLEASES!!!

I don't think that we'll ever be the people we were before our addictions touched us. I know that mine changed who I am, forever. It has coloured how I see the world and myself, and even as I moved into healthier behaviours and better lifestyle choices, it was this huge THING like some battle scar I wear; or a badge that reminds me constantly of where I've been and what I've been through. There has been no going back to the person I was before. It's not a bad thing or a good thing; it's just what it is.

Changing your environment WILL help you get that geographic cure, because your environmental triggers, like your mother, will be gone. However, I found that I packed my emotional baggage extremely well and my troubles would find me wherever I went, until I sought the professional treatment that ultimately helped me. That's just my story - I needed the complete overhaul of outpatient treatment, a medication regime, and individual therapy to overcome my addiction. It's really finding the path that works best for YOU that will be the right one. So it's hard to say that moving away will be enough to break the addiction for you.

It is great that you have been able to reach out here for help, Twinch. What steps have you made IRL to help yourself? Have you gone to any AA meetings? Have you talked to your doctor? Sometimes seeing them written down in front of you helps to solidify the feeling that you're doing something real and good.
