I had some ultram for my headaches and I noticed that 30 to 45 minutes after I took one, my ocd and negative thinking started to shift into a more positive attitude. I know the addictive properties of any opioid type pain killer, does anyone know of studies or doctors that use any type of new medication in the opiate class for anxiety/depression? or something that targets something other than f**king seretonin????? thanks, Rogdog

Run a medline search.
The approach has been used.
Other opioids have even been found to be useful in cases of OCD non-responsive to ECT and repeated brain surgeries.

Dr. Shipko, of the Panic Disorder Institute (www.algy.com/pdi/BBS/) has mentioned using low-dose hydrocone in a no. of his treatment-resistant patients. You can e-mail him. Something about possible opiod receptor dysfunction.

There is a piece on the unexpected benefits of Ultram in Dr Bob's tips. There seems to be a small sub-group of patients who only respond to opiates. Like Steve says, this population is enriched with OCD sufferers.

rogdog,
I have severe treatment resistent depression. I am interested in anything that you find on this subject. I have gone years without a positive thought. Occasionally at night I might feel okay, but there is something in me that prevents me from ever feeling good. I recall several years ago I took a pain killer (percidan) for wisdom teeth removal and I had nice euphoria with the medicine. I am extremely obsessive with my thinking. Same thought will be with me all day long. Curious if the ultram really helped this. Even more curious if there are long term studies with this type of medicine. I must have a very messed up opiate system. I come from a family history of depression and alcoholism. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Best to you.
