I am doing great on Prozac. However, I have a slight problem--my therapeutic window is very small. In other words, I am usually feeling fantastic and being very productive on say 65 mg a day, but 70 mg makes me anxious and somewhat depressed. 60 mg per day makes me feel a bit insecure and depressed too. This is rather problematic since my Prozac tablets contain 20 mg each and it's troublesome do divide them into exactly 5 mg pieces, let alone something even finer.
I'm thinking about solving the tablets in water and drinking an exact percentage of it which would give complete dose control. Could such a solution be stored in the refrigerator for a while?
It would be very interesting to hear if someone else has noticed this need for very precise dosing of Prozac or another antidepressant, and if so, how it's been dealt with.John

I heard from my p-doc once that you can put the contents of the capsules in acidic liquids like OJ or cranberrie juice and drink it that way. If you put it in water its gonna taste nasty. But the liquid thing sounds like a great solution to me.

There is also a 10 mg Prozac, which might help with your pill splitting. Collette

If you want to know how to disolve prozac in liquid its real easy. You get a perscription medicine bottle from your pharmacy that has markings on the side of it in mesurements of milliliters (ML).If your a good customer they will give it to you for free. Get the smallest size they have, say 80 ML,fill the bottle with juice or water to the 20 ML line. Open a 20mg capsule of prozac and put the powder in the bottle, shake. You now have 20mg of liquid prozac. each ML equals a MG. The best way to get your 5MG of prozac is to carefully tip the bottle untill you have removed 5ML of liquid. If you need less than 5MG then you can buy one of those eye dropper gizmos that have ML measurements on it. My experience with raising the prozac above 20MG was that the sedation kept me from staying on that higher dose. About 2 years into prozac I was diagnosed with ADD. I was not too happy about getting that dx especially at this stage of the game,Im not in school any more, but there was a silver lining.I was scripted ritalin, I thought about raising the prozac again now that I was on a stimulant maybe it would counteract the sedation. Well to make a long story short I am now taking 40MG prozac with out any significant sedation. My depression is under control and my concentration is better than its ever been.I did a little research and found out that prozac lowers your dopamine levels, and ritalin raises dopamine levels. I have been on this combo for about 2 years now. Recently I switched to the new 12 hour ritalin(CONCERTA)works real well.
