hi. Recently my depression has been very severe but seemed to perhaps be getting slightly better today.Yesterday and the few days before I have had quite a bit of scary thoughts. I would look at something. Anything. Like say I would look at a lamp. And this lamp would look frightening. Anyone ever experience anything like this with severe depression? And also I could try to think of something. Like say a tv show. This tv show in my mind would appear frightening as well. I am stopping my Celexa medication. I feel without a doubt it has been making my depression worse.
There is still some scariness today but hopefully that will all go away very soon as my depression turns to lesser severity as when before I was on the medication. Perhaps this symptom is part of a certain specific type of depression which may be better suited being treated by some specific class of medication. Anyone have any ideas? I have been made significantly worse by many anti depressants. Expecially SSRI's. Thanks for reading.

Hey Adamie,
You sound somewhat like me. SSRI's weren't the best for me, and I've had some pretty rough times on them. I'm now dxd Bipolar and am on a combination of a low dose of paxil (10mg) and a low dose of Depakote (500mg) which is a mood stabilizer. I don't feel *great*, but it's not the same as when I was on just an SSRI (those and SNRI's are the only AD's I've tried). I'm about 19, and I think I read before that you're in your late teens/early 20's, and someone recently posted that AD's (SSRI's) affect this group differently than they do adults (they don't work as well; they're effective for about 30%). I think you should also take into consideration what someone on another thread of yours posted about Bipolar. It seems like everyone is being diagnosed Bipolar now (personally I think it's just SSRI's/SNRI's causing some kind of reaction in a lot of people) but the medications that are used to treat Bipolar could be helpful to you (this combo is fairly calming for me; I know you'd at least be able to sleep on depakote). I'm guessing since you go back to the hospitol tomorrow you'll talk to your Pdoc and you can tell him what's going on. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was on 100mgs. Zoloft and 2mgs. Risperdal. It's funny that you would mention lamp, because I freaked out looking at a lava lamp! I would also see scary faces in my kitchen cabinets and all kinds of creepy stuff! When I got off the Risperdal and cut the Zoloft to 50mgs., that all went away. Have'nt had ANY paranoia since! These drugs are SCARY! Good luck!

Hi adamie,
I too suffer from severe depression and also find that objects, rooms and mundane activities [e.g. going to the shop for bread] can seem dark, threatening and fearful. No matter how else you try and see things, this is how they seem.I think it's just another horrible aspect of deep depression.
