Has anyone tried this green food powder or a similar product? Basically they take tons of natural ingredients and jam it into powder you can take with water. Supposedly two table spoons of the powder is equivalent of 5-10 servings of fruits or veggies (or so they say). The ingredients list is ridiculously long and I have a hard time believing that they can actually jam that much crap into one product. If you had any experience/info regarding this type of product, I apprecite you sharing with us. Thanks!
Here is the ingredient's list:
Green Super Foods: Kamut Grass*, Wheat Grass*, Barley Grass*, Oat Grass*, Alfalfa Grass*, Spirulina, Chlorella, Dunaliella, Kelp and Dulse. Green Super Foods are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, chlorophyll and antioxidants. (Gluten and Phytate free)
Vegetables: Carrot Juice*, Beet Juice*, Tomato Juice*, Sweet Potato*, Brocolli*, Kale*, Cabbage*, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Parsley*, Spinach*, Asparagus*, Celery*, Cucumber, Green Pepper*, Garlic, Ginger* and Onion. Vegetables are nature's richest sources of phytochemicals including lycopene, sulforophane, allicin and bioflavonoids.
Grains and Seeds: Flax Seeds*, Sesame Seeds*, Sunflower Seeds*, Pumpkin Seeds*, Chia Seeds* Garbanzo Beans*, Red Lentils*, Soy Beans*, Kidney Beans*, Azuki Beans*, Oats*, Barley*, Rye*, Millet*, Brown Rice*, Maize* and Buckwheat* (Gluten and Phytate Free). Easily digestible grains, seeds and legumes provide vitamins such as B complex and vitamin E, Isoflavones, Fiber and essential fatty acids including Omega 3 and 6.
Acerola Cherry: Nature's richest source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is crucial as a premier antioxidant and is important for the health of the immune system.

Poten-ZymeTM Process The nutrient rich superfoods contained in Perfect FoodTM are pre-digested using the proprietary Poten-ZymeTM process. The Poten-ZymeTM process is an ancient bio fermentation process using beneficial microorgainisms (probiotics) and their enzymes to gently break down foods into their most basic elements. Poten-ZymeTM neutralizes nutrient inhibitors found in foods such as grains, seeds and legumes. Many people with sensitive digestive systems have a tough time obtaining nutrition from these sometimes difficult to digest foods. Poten-ZymeTM solves that problem. Poten-ZymeTM creates and liberates valuable compounds within the foods including: enzymes, antioxidants, beta glucans, phytosterols and many others. Poten-ZymeTM enhances the nutritional value of the food while making it much easier to digest. This assures the Perfect FoodTM user more complete absorption and delivery of nutrients at the cellular level. Some of the longest living and healthiest people in history have relied on fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, miso and sauerkraut to supply them with much needed nutrition and aid in digestion. Perfect FoodTM provides the health secrets of old in a fast food for the future. Unlike other products, the probiotics and enzymes contained in Perfect FoodTM are created within the foods themselves. Perfect FoodTM provides probiotics, enzymes and phytonutrients in one whole food package. Where other super foods isolate, Perfect FoodTM completes.

There's a story in Jordan Rubin's book, Patient, Heal Thyself (Creator of Garden of Life) about a physician that used Perfect Food on a woman with a variety of mental and bodily imbalances and how she normalized after a few months on the product.
Primal Defense is supposed to be good too.

Thanks for the info Taylor. Have you had personal experience with these type of products? I guess the best thing to do is to blend my own veggie juice like you do, but I'm just too busy to do it. =(

Yeah, I used to take a lot of green foods.
The three main ones were Pure Synergy, Vitamineral Green, and Perfect Food. They looked to be the most unique, nutrient-dense, and organic.
PS contained too many things and herbs, but I really liked it. Vitamineral green was too strong. Perfect Food might have been a little too energizing, not sure.
If you go to a Whole Foods, anytime you buy a garden of life supplement (or is it two) you get the book free.

As a matter of fact I do purchase my supplements at Whole Foods. Didn't get a free book though ... Now I know what to ask for next time, thanks! =)

The more a food has been processed, the fewer nutrients are left. A powder is hightly processed. One gets more nutrients by consuming fresh food, such as wheatgrass juice or juiced greens. They should preferably be consumed within 20 minutes of juicing. After that the nutrients begin to die. You can get wheatgrass juice everyday with a quick trip to Jamba juice or a health food store. I have started growing and juicing it myself at home. I also stick all kinds of greens in my Champion juicer, parsely, watercress, spinach... I just juice a clove are garlic along with it and maybe some carrots, and it tastes great! I always try to get organic produce. Both my physical and psychological health has greatly improved! I used to take all kinds of meds. Now I take no psych meds and very few other meds.

I have also wondered how they could smash all those nutrients into some powder. I heard that just drinking 4 to 6 cups of Green Tea is as good a deal, but I dont know anymore. I dont see how you can get the Phytochemicals, and antioxidants found in green food in some processed powder that you make like Kool Aid

'Genesis's "Green Life Smoothie" is a delivered fresh and dated refrigerated "juice" containing _all_ of the above*, and then some. It's label used to have to be a small 3-tiered folded thing.

We are fortunate to have this available here in the PacificNorthWest.
Many like myself considered this fresh formula(s) as 'medicine' more than 'food'. It has been a lifesaver for me during challenging times to my survival. It has sustained the mental vitality of those i love, thru' ~very~ trying times.i do recall being advised to watch out for expiration dates and process/storage methods re: packaged powders, and remember that many algae and spirulina is overwhelmed-if-not-destroyed by citrus... but not to discount the gifted viability of correctly harvested and stored life in these aforementioned 'lifeforms'.
i can not, however speak to whether or not a healthy body/mind would even notice the difference (which is as it should be, i suppose) but i can speak to the noticeable difference it has made for me.

Hi Cass - I was looking at some old posts, trying to get some ideas. I would like to ask you some questions, if you don't mind.
You said you used to be on meds and have gone completely natural for your cure.
1. What was your dx and what meds were you on (& for how long)?
2. What regimen did you/do you follow that alleviated your symptoms?
3. How long did it take?Sorry for all the questions. My husband is not in favor of meds for himself, but he is suffering from major amounts of stress that is turning into a pretty serious case of depression, but he won't admit it! I take Lexapro and am getting better, but I'd rather not be on meds either.
I have him on all sorts of vitamins & supplements, including Omega3. I'm new to all this, though, and am not sure what to recommend.
Thanks to you and anyone else who can give me some advice :-)
~ Lynne
