In reply to Paxil Serzone and Increased Anxiety, posted by Gerry S. on June 7, 2001, at 12:51:58
SSRI'S cause cylcing in bipolars. Perhaps you need a different type of anti-depressant that is not an SSRI. Also look for a second opinion when your doctor has only one solution-SSRI's and the solution is not working.
Do you have any other symptom other than anxiety.
Remember medication at this point is at the "educated" trial and error stage.> For the treatment of major depression I was first prescribed Remeron which worked well at first then its benefit tapered off after four months. My doctor switched me to Paxil which, after two weeks, caused enormous anxiety--borderline panic. I stayed on Paxil for 6-7 weeks but the anxiety never became acceptable. I was taken off all antidepressants for two weeks, then put on Serzone. It appeared to start working in the first two weeks or so, and then also caused tremendous anxiety starting after two weeks. I was pulled off that drug also after 5-6 weeks. These feelings of anxiety were nothing like I have ever experienced in my life---i.e., they felt drug induced.
