I used to do that all the time. And I mean ALL the time. Like you, with the diet orange soda, I began drinking black coffe because I didn't want the calories included with a teaspoon of milk. I also used to have a hard time grocery shopping because I couldn't imagine myself eating or even tasting the foods I saw, so I would usually come home empty handed.
However, I went to a treatment center where I began trying to eat a minimum of 1200 calories per day. At first it was unmanageably difficult, but after a year or two of eating that amount, I was able to "allow" myself to give in to certain foods that had previously been on my unallowed list. I began to realize that a really healthy snack of peanut butter on crackers has the same amount of calories that half a candy bar does....so I would find myself giving in a little here and there. Not to say that wasn't scary, but just a realization. Also, if you do give in, it takes the cravings away. I don't know if you have problems binging or not, but just a little bit won't hurt. For me, group therapy was the key, so hopefully these boards are helping you! Good luck!
