You are not alone. When I first entered recovery and began to eat (who knew we needed to do that?), I had the same problems. I was terribly full after a small meal, sometimes felt hungry right after eating, and sometimes I didn't feel hungry at meal time. The nurse who led my ED group used to tell us, if you are hungry "EAT,", and if you aren't hungry, don't eat. When we starve ourselves, our bodies get used to not having food, so they have to sort of get their acts together when we start eating again. When I first started eating, I gained some weight because I was hungry all the time, and I was following directions by eating if I was hungry. Everyone kept telling my that my metabolism would evenually regulate itself, so to just keep trying. I did, and it was really hard some days, but my metabolism did finally regulate itself after a year to a year and a half. That time period was hard, but definitely worth it. Now I actually know when I'm hungry and when I'm full, and I feel much better overall. So, YES, your metabolism will get normal again, just give it time. It probably took awhile for it to get abnormal, so don't expect instant results. I had an ED for 13 years, and it took 12-16 months, but I know it varies from person to person. Keep trying, and good luck!
