My p-doc wanted me to do DBT and I found a group that worked well for a while, then started to fall apart as people kept leaving, then a new member would take their place, then not show up regularly. Still, the year it worked was worthwhile. I then started working individually with a DBT therapist. I have found this very helpful. This summer, I met with her and my p-doc together and they agreed that she would be my primary therapist and take responsibility for me if I became suicidal. I have worked hard with her on my obsessive suicidality, which, by the way, is what DBT was developed for. I have seen a lot of improvement. I feel more in control than I have been in a long time.

So I'm a big DBT booster. But it's hard to find DBT therapists or groups. I found my current therapist by doing a search on my insurance company website for therapists who listed DBT as a specialty. Even then, I called about 30 people before I found someone who really did only or mostly DBT.
